The Sugden Heritage Collections

The Sugden Heritage Collections

Queen’s College is home to the Sugden Heritage Collections, an internationally significant collection of rare books, Bibles, and Methodistica. The Collections include signed manuscript letters by John Wesley, a remarkable collection of Bibles dating from 1495 to the 19th century, as well as the Dodgson Collection of Egyptian Antiquities and Coptic Textiles. Queen’s has a partnership with The Australasian Centre for Wesleyan Research (ACWR) to promote and support research on the life, work and times of the Wesleys and their successors in the Wesleyan tradition. Researchers are welcome to use these resources in house. Interested parties may set up an appointment with Dr Jenny Bars at archives@queens.unimelb.edu.au.

Some items from our collection are on display in the Wyvern Centre. Showcased items include: an Enoch Wood bust of John Wesley, Dr Sugden’s portable communion set and a magnificent silver punch bowl supported by three Wyverns rampant.

You can also view photos of many of the items in the collection at the Victorian Collections website.
