The Choir of Queen’s College
The Choir of Queen’s College is a choir serving the liturgical needs of Queen’s College Chapel and, through ministry in music, the wider spiritual life of Queen’s College and the University of Melbourne.
The Choir consists of approximately 20 members, comprising resident and non-resident members of the College.
Auditions for Choir membership are held each year. The Choir has a generous scholarships programme for one Senior Chorister, three Section Leader Choristers, twelve Rank-and-File Choristers, two First-Year Scholars and an Organ Scholar.
The Choir’s repertoire is very large, and ranges from the music of the Renaissance through the classics of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods to contemporary works. Honouring the Methodist tradition on which Queen’s College rests, the Choir regularly performs some of the great music of the Wesleyan and English Cathedral traditions. The Choir also enjoys ongoing relationships with the Choir of Haileybury College Chapel and viola da gamba consort, The Queene’s Violles, with whom it performs in several services through the year.
The core of the Choir Activities is weekly services in semester time in Queen’s College Chapel, located at the west end of the first floor of the Tweddle Wing (building forming the north façade of the College). Chapel commences at 6.30pm each Sunday and everyone is welcome.
