The Nicholas Laboratory, or ‘Labs’, were built in 1930 for the purpose of being science laboratories. However in later years they were renovated and now serve as a 24 hour recreational complex that is run by the students.
TV Room and Emporium
The TV room has large comfortable couches, a big plasma TV with Foxtel and a DVD/VCR player. This space becomes a social gathering area during semester, especially when there is a major event on TV or a fellow Queener is appearing on a game show. In the TV room you will also find the Queen’s College Emporium. The Emporium stocks a wide range of confectionery at very low prices, and becomes very popular during exam period. It opens up twice a night, and during exams opens up for a third time for those late nights. The Emporium is run by a small committee of students.
Games Room
The games room has a full size pool table, darts board, foosball and table tennis table. As you might expect, you will often find students relaxing/procrastinating in this room. In particular, this room becomes very popular when students are preparing and training for the Intercollegiate Pool and Darts competition.
Party Room and Courtyard
There is a party room and courtyard on the east side of the Labs. The party room contains a dance floor, light and sound system and a bar. Outside in the adjoining paved courtyard there are warm gas heaters, a barbecue, large wooden tables and seating. The party room is frequently used for our in-house dance parties (called ‘Turns’) and are often based on a theme. You can expect to see some crazy outfits at these events!
