The Honourable Justice Lesley Taylor

Join us as we welcome our guest speaker, The Honourable Justice Lesley Taylor of the Supreme Court of Victoria presenting on

“The Special Court for Sierra Leone: Some Reflections on Transitional Justice”

The Honourable Justice Lesley Taylor was appointed to the Supreme Court of Victoria in July 2018. She had previously practiced as a lawyer for 25 years, including 20 years as a barrister at the Victorian Bar, where she was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2011.

As counsel, her Honour primarily undertook criminal cases, both prosecuting and defending in areas ranging from terrorism, to corporate crime, to murder. Her Honour has also worked in various international bodies, including under the auspices of the United Nations and the High Commissioner for Human Rights. In this regard, in 2004 and 2005 her Honour was Senior Trial Counsel at the Office of the Prosecutor in Sierra Leone; in 2006 she was Senior Counsel assisting the Independent Commission of Inquiry into Timor Leste, and in 2011 she was Senior Advisor to the Special Independent Commission of Inquiry into Kyrgyzstan.

Her Honour also regularly teaches internationally, having instructed in advocacy in Uganda in both 2015 and 2017, and in Cambodia in 2016.
