- Summary
- These are awarded to students entering the College for the first time at first year level. They are awarded on the basis of results obtained in Year 12, i.e. the TER/ENTER score, as well as other criteria, such as suitability for college life.
An asterisk (*) indicates that financial need must be demonstrated. Major scholarships are 15% of annual fees, minor scholarships are 10% of annual fees.
- Una Porter* (half fee)
Two half fee scholarships made available by the F. J. Cato Trust in memory of Dr. Una Porter, who was formerly the World President of the YWCA. They are for general excellence; the candidate must show financial need.
- McComb Hockey* (half fee)
A half-fee scholarship for a disadvantaged student coming from a rural background. Preference will be given to a student who aspires to the study of medicine or other health sciences. Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need.Dr Harold McComb attended Queen’s from 1945 to 1947 while studying medicine. He subsequently became a distinguished plastic surgeon in Perth. His wife Dr Athel Hockey was a non-resident medical student at Queen’s from 1944 to 1947. She also pursued a medical career in West Australia, first as a paediatrician and later as head of the Genetics Department at the University of West Australia.
- Dr Cedric Vear Scholarship* (third fee)
A third-fee scholarship for a disadvantaged student living in Regional Victoria or Southern New South Wales. Dr Cedric Vear studied Medicine at the University of Melbourne and was a resident of Queen’s College from 1943 to 1947. For many years he was a General practitioner in the Riverina town of Finley. In recent years three of his grandchildren have also been residents of the College.
- Invergowrie Women’s* ($2,500 ea.)
Two scholarships have been made available to the College by the Invergowrie Foundation to support its mission of promoting and advancing the education of young rural women in Victoria. To be eligible for the scholarships applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Female, entering the first year of university study.
- VCE studies must have been undertaken in rural Victoria (excluding the greater Melbourne metropolitan and Geelong areas).

Scholarship granted for academic excellence based on a gift of £1000 to the College when it was founded in 1887.
- James Foundation (Major)
Scholarship granted for academic excellence based on a gift of £1000 to the College when it was founded in 1887.
- Jamieson Foundation (Major)
Scholarship granted for academic excellence based on a gift of £1000 to the College when it was founded in 1887.
- Dunhill Faculty Biomedicine (Minor)
Entrance scholarship for a student of biomedicine who shows academic promise, based on a legacy from Sir Thomas Dunhill, surgeon to the Queen, in honour of his brother who died in 1907 soon after leaving the College.
- Macartney Faculty Arts (Minor)
Entrance scholarship for an Arts student who shows academic promise, based on a bequest by Keith Macartney, who was the Professor of English Language and Drama at the University of Melbourne.
- Hemmy Faculty Science (Minor)
Entrance scholarship for a Science student who shows academic promise, based on a bequest from Prof. A. S. Hemmy, who resided at Queen’s in 1889-1893 and was later Professor of Physics in Lahore University in Pakistan.
- Latham Faculty Commerce (Minor)
Entrance Scholarship for a Commerce student who shows academic promise based on a donation from Mr Graeme Latham, in honour of his father, who was a resident just prior to WW II, and served the Council from 1953 to 1993.
- Hargreaves Faculty Engineering (Minor)
Entrance scholarship for an Engineering student who shows academic promise in memory of Prof. Max Hargreaves, who was Professor of Metallurgy at the University and President of Council.
- Faculty Music (Minor)
Entrance Scholarship for a Music student who shows academic promise (VCA students also eligible).
- Faculty Environments (Minor)
Entrance Scholarship for an environments student who shows academic promise.
- Brown Metropolitan (Minor)
From the estate of Mr. E. L. Brown, a prominent Methodist who was the accountant of the firm of G. J. Coles for many years.These are a set of eight regional scholarships granted for academic excellence and general suitability for College life: For students from the Metropolitan area in Victoria (postcodes 3000 – 3207).

Entrance scholarship for a student from Geelong College, granted for academic promise and general suitability for College life, based on a generous gift from Miss Jean Roberts in memory of her nephew who was killed in World War II.
- Roberts ($1,000)
Entrance scholarship for a student from Wesley College, granted for academic promise and general suitability for College life, based on a generous gift from Miss Jean Roberts in memory of her nephew who was killed in World War II.
